VANAYA NATURAL — Vetpalai & Kuppaimeni

Siddha Skin Therapy Handmade Ayurvedic Soap

125g · ₹349 · Cold-Process · Palm-Free · SLS & Paraben-Free

HERO DESCRIPTION

Two herbs the Siddha tradition has trusted for centuries, pressed into a single golden bar.

Vetpalai (Wrightia tinctoria) is the bark Siddha vaidyas turned to for stubborn skin troubles long before dermatology had a name. Kuppaimeni (Acalypha indica) is the leaf grandmothers crushed into pastes for irritation, itch, and inflamed skin. We've cold-processed both into a 125g bar that smells like the forest floor after rain and feels like a quiet ritual.

No palm oil. No synthetic fragrance. No surfactants pretending to be plants.

Assume Your Aura.

WHY THIS BAR EXISTS

Most soaps clean. This one was built to do something older.

In Tamil Nadu's Siddha medicine system — one of India's oldest continuous healing traditions — Vetpalai and Kuppaimeni weren't beauty ingredients. They were therapies. Vetpalai bark was pounded into psoriasis treatments. Kuppaimeni was the everyday answer to itching, ringworm, fungal flare-ups, and skin you couldn't stop scratching.

We didn't invent anything. We just put them back in your bathroom — without the palm oil, without the SLS, without the seventeen unpronounceable additives the mass-market needs to keep a bar on the shelf for two years.

What you get is a 125g cold-process soap that lathers gently, smells earthy and warm, and treats your skin like the Siddha texts said you should.

THE INGREDIENTS — 100% NATURAL ACTIVES

The Star Herbs

  • Vetpalai (Wrightia tinctoria) bark extract — Traditionally used in Siddha for psoriasis, eczema, and chronic skin inflammation. Astringent, cooling, and quietly powerful.
  • Kuppaimeni (Acalypha indica) leaf extract — The first-aid herb of South Indian households. Antimicrobial, anti-fungal, calming on irritated skin.
  • Neem (Azadirachta indica) leaf — Added for its broad antibacterial action and centuries-old reputation for blemish-prone skin.

The Base Oils (palm-free, every drop)

  • Cold-pressed coconut oil — for clean, conditioning lather
  • Mango butter — for slow-melt softness
  • Kokum butter — for structure and skin barrier support
  • Castor oil — for creamy, stable bubbles
  • Rice bran oil — for the gentle finish

WHAT IT DOES FOR YOUR SKIN

  • Calms irritation — Vetpalai and Kuppaimeni are traditionally used for inflamed, itchy, reactive skin
  • Gently cleanses — Cold-process soap retains its natural glycerin, so it doesn't strip
  • Cools and refreshes — The herb profile leaves skin feeling settled, not tight
  • Supports skin clarity — Neem's traditional reputation, in a daily-use format

This is a daily-use bar. Face, body, hands. Safe on sensitive skin. Suitable for Kapha and Pitta doshas in the Ayurvedic body-type system.

HOW TO USE

Wet the bar. Work into a soft lather between your palms or onto a washcloth. Massage onto damp skin in slow circles. Rinse with lukewarm water.

For best results, store on a draining soap dish between uses — cold-process soaps last 4–6 weeks when allowed to dry properly between baths.

Pro tip: Use morning and evening for the first two weeks if you're switching from a sulfate-based soap. The shift is real.

WHO THIS BAR IS FOR

  • You've tried "natural" soaps before and they either melted in three days or smelled like a candle store
  • You read ingredient lists
  • You believe skincare can be both ritual and science
  • You want your bathroom to feel like an apothecary, not a supermarket aisle
  • Your skin is reactive, sensitive, or just tired of foam

THE CRAFT

Each bar is made in small batches at our partner workshop in Pollachi, Coimbatore — a Tamil Nadu region with a long handmade-soap tradition. The cold-process method means oils and lye react slowly at low temperature, preserving the integrity of every botanical we add. No high-heat extruders. No mass-production shortcuts.

Each batch is cured for a minimum of 4 weeks before it ever sees your bathroom.

FAQ

What is cold-process soap?
Cold-process is a traditional soap-making method where oils and sodium hydroxide (lye) are combined at low temperatures — typically below 40°C. Unlike hot-process or commercial methods, no external heat is applied after mixing. This preserves the natural glycerin produced during saponification and keeps the botanical actives intact.

Why does cold-process soap look different from regular soap?
Because it is different. The amber swirls, slightly rough texture, and earthy tone come directly from the herbs and oils used — not a design choice from a lab. Every batch varies slightly. That's not a defect. That's craft.

Will it lather like a regular soap?
Yes — but softer. Cold-process soaps produce a creamy, lower-volume lather rather than the dense foam of sulfate-based bars. That's a feature, not a bug. Foam is mostly marketing.

Can I use this on my face?
Yes, if your skin tolerates handmade soaps well. If you have very dry or compromised skin, patch-test first.

Is it safe for sensitive skin?
Designed for it. But every skin is different — try a small area before committing.

Is there any lye (sodium hydroxide) left in the finished soap?
No. Lye is a processing agent, not an ingredient in the final bar. During saponification, the lye reacts completely with the oils to form soap and glycerin. No lye remains in a properly made cold-process bar. This is basic soap chemistry.

What is saponification and why does it matter?
Saponification is the chemical reaction between oils/fats and lye that produces soap. In cold-process, this reaction happens slowly at room temperature, which preserves heat-sensitive botanicals — like Vetpalai and Kuppaimeni — that would be destroyed in a hot-process or commercial factory setting.

Why does VANAYA soap cost more than a supermarket bar?
Because it is not a supermarket bar. It contains real herbs, real butters, and no cheap fillers. It takes 4+ weeks to cure. It's made in small batches by hand. You're paying for what's in the bar — not what's been removed to hit a ₹30 price point.

How long does one bar last?
Roughly 4–6 weeks of daily face + body use, when stored on a draining dish.

Will it melt in the shower?
Only if you leave it sitting in water. Treat it like a small block of butter — keep it dry between uses.

How should I store it?
On a well-draining soap dish, away from direct water spray. Between uses, let it air-dry completely. A dry bar lasts significantly longer than one left in a puddle. Do not store in an airtight container.

Can I use this bar for children?
The formula is gentle and free from synthetic additives. For children above 3 years, it's generally suitable. For infants or very young children, consult a paediatrician before introducing any new skin product.

Does the soap expire?
Shelf life is 24 months from manufacture date (printed on the box). After that, the oils may go rancid and the scent may change. Use it — don't display it.

Why does it look different from the photos sometimes?
Because it's handmade. Swirl patterns, surface texture, and color depth vary slightly batch to batch. The formulation doesn't.

Is the soap green or yellow?
Golden honey-yellow with amber swirls. Always. If anyone shows you a green Vetpalai-Kuppaimeni bar, it isn't ours.

Is this vegan?
Yes. No animal fats, no beeswax, no animal-derived ingredients of any kind. Fully plant-based.

Is this cruelty-free?
Yes. Not tested on animals at any stage of production.
